THE WORLD FORUM ON THE WTO
INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR ACTION:
DOHA WTO MINISTERIAL: OUR WORLD IS NOT FOR SALE
Civil Society Activists around the world,
Countdown to Qatar!!! The next WTO Ministerial will be held from 9-13 November in Doha, Qatar. The meeting will be highlighted by corporate lobbying and Northern government attempts to bully many developing countries into a new round of trade talks.
The WTO intends to meet virtually without NGO or civil society representation. According to latest sources less than 200 public interest NGO representatives will be allowed to enter the state of Qatar!!!
The WTO can run away, but they cannot hide! Activists around the world will plan events in the run up of Qatar to stop a new round of trade talks, to turn trade around and to demonstrate our peaceful and informed nature of protest. |

We call for fundamental change to the unjust rules and institutions governing international trade, so that trade is made to work for all. |

Massive protest rally titled, "Indian People's Campaign against WTO"
purpose and key message: The rally will give a call for a sustained mass movement to stop the government from surrendering India's economic sovereignty and destroying the Indian economy and people's livelihoods.
Narmada Bachoa Andolan and National Alliance for Peoples' Movements have planned to organize events in various states where ever their local groups are active. For example in Mandleshwar, Madhya Pradesh, there is a plan to observe a 'anti-WTO week' (from November 03, to November 09, 2001) with the same motive as discussed above. Besides this, this particular rally would also be campaigning against globalization, liberalization and privatization and against the ways in which WTO aids such processes. |

El fracaso de la "Ronda del milenio" de la Organización Mundial del Comercio (que cuenta con 140 países miembros) en Seattle, si ha significado un parón de negociaciones omnicomprensivas sobre el comercio, no ha cuestionado la "agenda incorporada", establecida en 1994, la cual comprende la aun mayor liberalización del comercio de servicios (incluyendo los movimientos de trabajadores), de productos agrícolas, y de la propiedad intelectual. Los acuerdos tomados en el año 1994 ya tenían un gran alcance, puesto que, para decirlo de manera sintética, el principio clave de estos acuerdos es de siempre hacer prevalecer los intereses de los inversores y vendedores sobre los modos de vida de los pueblos, la relación con la naturaleza y los derechos fundamentales. |

all is for sale", against current WTO system and for "Another world is
possible".
Attac and NIGD is organising a seminar in Helsinki University on nessecity for global
democratization after terrorist attacks and counter attacks.
Attac Finland calls all NGOs to join a demonstration "Not all is for sale",
against current WTO system and for "Another world is possible". Helsinki leaving
from Railway square at 18.00. During the day several groups are organising decentralized
mosaic actions around the town. Attac organises togther with several NGOs and labour
movement a Doha-seminar "Are there alternatives for free trade" between 12-18
with prominent speakers and 8 workshops on different themes like Democracy in Doha, GATS
and threat to public services, WTO and development countries, visions and alternatives. |

Duas iniciativas no dia 10 de Novembro: - Uma acção de rua contra a política da OMC - E uma conferência de Imprensa conjunta com várias organizações sociais em que se vai apresentar um documento comum sobre a conferência.
Essa tomada de posição será na linha do apelo dos Economistas da ATTAC, em que pedem que a OMC aceite determinadas exigências contrárias aos chamados "pontos de Singapura": manutenção e desenvolvimento dos serviços públicos de sectores essenciais; como água, educação, saúde; definição de limites aos transgênicos, por não serem comprovadamente; seguros à saúde e ao meio-ambiente; fim das patentes de plantas, animais, micro-organismos e genes; proclamação da água e do patrimônio genético como bens comuns à humanidade;
e a mudança dos direitos de propriedade intelectual de remédios, para favorecer os países pobres. |

LE MONDE N'EST PAS UNE MARCHANDISE !
Face aux prétentions de l'Organisation mondiale du commerce - Manifestons le 10 novembre"
La Conférence ministérielle de l'OMC qui va se tenir au Qatar du 9 au 13 novembre constitue donc un enjeu majeur pour les peuples, les citoyen(e)s, les salarié(e)s, pour l'avenir même de notre planète. Lors de la précédente réunion de l'OMC à Seattle en novembre 1999, les divergences entre les Etats membres, couplées aux mobilisations citoyennes, avaient empêché l'ouverture d'un nouveau cycle de libéralisation du commerce mondial.Il s’agit en particulier de remettre en cause, à travers l’Accord général sur le commerce des services (AGCS), l’ensemble des services publics, notamment la santé et l’éducation. Il s’agit aussi de faire des produits agricoles de simples objets commerciaux avec pour conséquence la standardisation de l’alimentation, la disparition des petites exploitations au Nord comme au Sud et le développement de l’insécurité alimentaire.
Cette transformation de toutes les activités en marchandises se fera pour le plus grand profit des firmes multinationales qui contrôlent déjà les deux tiers du commerce mondial.
